The representativeness heuristic is a mental shortcut where you judge the likelihood of an event based on how well it matches your mental representation. If it matches your mental representation, you judge it as likely. If it does not match your mental representation, you judge it as unlikely.Like all heuristics, they are short cuts that use little time and mental resources, but can lead to systematic errors.
